Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) are weapons intended for widespread death and destruction. They can become the cause of catastrophic effects on human populations and the environment. WMDs may also lead to the extinction of humans in the worst case scenario. These weapons are mainly classified into 4 types:
- Nuclear Weapons
- Biological Weapons
- Chemical Weapons
- Radiological Weapons
Each type poses unique dangers to humans and the environment. These WMDs are considered as a last resort for assured destruction and harm in modern wars and conflicts. To prevent the use of WMDs, many international treaties and agreements have been signed. These treaties aim to limit or ban the production, testing and deployment of different types of WMDs. However, the threat remains a significant challenge for the world.
