Egyptian Army or the Egyptian Ground Forces is the land fighting force of Egypt. It is the largest component of the Egyptian Armed Forces and the 10th largest standing army in the world.
It is one of the most active in the UN peace keeping missions in the Middle-East and it had also done many rescue missions, counter-terrorism missions, counter-insurgency missions and reconnaissance missions.
This massive army was founded in 1820 under second-establishment as the permanent forces of the Islamic Republic of Egypt. Its headquarters are located in the Egyptian capital of Cairo. This modern day army consists of 380,000 active personnel.
Motto of the EA is “One hand constructing and the other carrying the rifle”. It is administered by the Supreme commander of the Armed Forces and it is headed by the Chief of Staff of the Army. When it comes to equipment, sources say that EA has 3880 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs), 610 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), 3810 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), 962 Towed Artillery, 488 Self-Propelled Artillery, 2214 SAMs (Surface-to-Air-Missiles) and 468 Multiple Rocket Launch Systems (MLRS).
